DER TOMAT is a vending machine for tomatoes. It is based on the principle of a gumball machine, which was more common in the past: you get a tomato for inserting a coin. This initially resembles the chewing gum ball in appearance, but of course differs enormously in almost all its properties. This project questions the perception and value of the food growing process in today's society - how much time goes into an industrially produced chewing gum vs. a tomato plant, from cultivation to harvest. It should also be fun, invite interaction and celebrate the diversity of the tomato world.
In addition to the construction of a functioning vending machine, an illuminated sign, flyers and stickers printed with the Riso were created to mark the home-grown tomatoes.
